The Cultural Arts Program of Hays County is devoted to highlighting the artistic excellence and cultural diversity of the metropolitan area. Through a series of ongoing exhibitions at the Hays County Government Center, the program encourages public dialogue, understanding, and appreciation of the visual arts. Visitors and students can take advantage of guided tours and educational programs offered by the art galleries in Hays County. Guided tours are conducted by trained Museum educators and volunteers and last for one hour. During these tours, students are engaged in stimulating, student-centered conversations that foster curricular connections and important learning skills such as evidence-based reasoning and critical thinking.
The aim is to motivate students to develop strong content knowledge across disciplines and bolster their confidence, curiosity, and creativity. Organizations or artists lending works of art for an exhibition at the Hays County Government Center must provide an appropriate replacement, subject to approval by the Arts Committee. The art displayed in public areas must be suitable for an office environment and for viewing by public officials, county employees, and citizens who transact business in the building. The Art Committee will select works of art that are appropriate in subject matter and quality for the functions of the Hays County Government Center. An organization or individual that wants to exhibit an exhibition at the Hays County Government Center must submit a proposal to the Arts Committee. If approved in writing by the building manager, the Art Committee may allow the lender to uninstall an exhibition or to assist the Art Committee in dismantling and removing all works of art and other components from an exhibition.
If the Art Committee receives a complaint that a particular work of art is mocking, vulgar, appalling, or offensive to visitors, the county judge will review the complaint and make a determination. Reservations for guided tours must be made three weeks before the requested date, and reservations for self-guided groups must be made at least two weeks in advance. If approved in writing by the building manager, the Arts Committee may allow a lender to install the exhibition under the supervision of the Arts Committee or provide at least one person to assist with the installation of the exhibition by the Arts Committee. The Cultural Arts Program of Hays County provides visitors and students with amazing opportunities to explore great works of art through guided tours and educational programs. Through these initiatives, visitors can gain a better understanding of local artistic efforts while also promoting cultural and economic initiatives in Hays County.
