May Meeting
May 13, 7 pm
Demo: Paul Alix

For this month's membership meeting, we were looking for a demo artist who works in drawing, painting, sculpting, casting, inventing and assemblage. Well, that would be Paul. In addition to showing slides and samples of his work, he'll do a live demo of sculpting and casting in resin. As he's only got an hour, he's agreed to not do any magic tricks or singing. You really don't want to miss this one!

Meetings are held in the Wimberley Community Center. Come at 6:30 for conversation and snacks. The meeting starts at 7:00.

Arts Fest a Rocking Success!

Dreary skies on Friday cleared on Saturday, just in time to welcome the 5th Annual Arts fest to beautiful Blue Hole Regional Park! Most of the artists set up on Friday and were ready to welcome the thousands of visitors who attended on Saturday. From the jazzy sounds of the Steve Schoen Trio to Slim Richey and Meaux Jeaux, to Jill Jones and 3 Hands High, the stage rocked all day, with Ponty Bone treating fest goers to his Cajun accordion as the highlight.

It was a sight to see all those white tents and beautiful artwork of every medium. Artists came from far and wide, as well many of our art league members. There was great food and drink and a lively atmosphere, with visitors being shuttled to and from the parking lot. Of course the Classic Car show was a hit, with Jim McMeans reporting that Saturday's attendance was the most they had ever had. The children's art corner, hosted by Arts From the Heart, was very popular this year with a variety of activities for the kids. Two artists, Joe Blanford and Sandy Reese painted their hearts out on Saturday at Blue Hole. On Sunday, the paintings were auctioned off with the proceeds going to Blue Hole Park. Congratulations, Joe, on the People's Choice award! Joe's prize is a quarter page ad in Southwest Art Magazine.

Sales of T-shirts and posters were brisk, and poster art winner DR Jones was on hand to sign posters. He generously auctioned off the original artwork Precarious Perch, with a portion of the proceeds donated to Arts from the Heart! Sunday ushered in another great crowd and a day of music on the stage; performers included the Hot Texas Swing Band, The Square Pegs, Gypsy Moon and White Shoes.

None of it would have been possible without the hard work of all of great volunteers and Blue Hole Park staff; Jim and Beth McJunkin, Irma Gros, Martha Gibson, Steve Schoen, Stan and Myra Allen, Kathy Carlson and Mike Lukowiak, Suzanne Cantwell, Mary Kochenderfer, Petesie Lee, Katherine Evans, Trisha McWaters, Shirley Anderson, Lorrie Dunks, Norma Green and many more. Of course, hats off to Ian Green, Chairman of the 2013 Fest!

This popular community wide event brings people together and benefits everyone, from the artists to the merchants, to the restaurants and B&B's. Invaluable support was also given to the Art League by the City of Wimberley. Many thanks to everyone who played a part-looking forward to 2014!
